Named after the river it flanks, Villa Song Saigon (‘sông’ means river in Vietnamese) is still relatively unknown — and that’s a good thing. The luxury boutique hotel only opened in late 2013, is not part of a hotel chain or group, and so retains a distinct charm about it that’s rare to find.

With the Saigon river as its backdrop and wild, undeveloped grasslands across the water, it’s not uncommon to see local fishermen throwing their nets out to prepare for the daily catch, ankle-deep in mud as you enjoy your breakfast on the alfresco riverside terrace.
